The accomplice whips the horses into a frenzy of fear and they run amok with the terrified Kitty holding impotently to the reins. Jameson subdues Hooper with one stiff punch, and jumping upon Hooper's horse, overtakes the flying team. Hooper, with added vindictiveness, induces his accomplice to steal the pay-roll, arranging matters so that suspicion falls upon Kitty. Jameson, convinced of her ignorance and suspecting Hooper, follows him and sees his meeting with the accomplice, who turns over the stolen money. For his share the accomplice receives a blow in the face. Infuriated, the accomplice reveals the plot to Jameson, who pursues Hooper. Hooper seeks refuge on a windmill. Thinking to accomplish the death of Jameson, he starts the windmill in action. Instead of its mighty arms striking Jameson, one of its prongs catches in the nape of Hooper's coat and he is whirled high aloft. The cloth gives away under his weight and he falls many feet below to mutilation and death.

He plans a meeting and writes as she valued her life not to reveal the marriage. After they meet and part, Jennie wanders away, leaving her bag with Joe's note on the ground, and finally joins a band of gypsies. When Jennie's belongings are found, a crime is suspected and Joe traced and arrested. He is tried and condemned. The minister comes to the prison and tells Joe he was really married to Jennie. Jennie, who is with the gypsies, sees a newspaper, which tells that Joe Rogers' life is to be ended. The gypsies learn of her trouble and give her a horse and wagon to go to save her husband. After much hard riding, Jennie reaches the gallows in time to prevent the punishment, and they are happily reunited.
